ToggleCustom Wallbeds Dubai — Built for Rooms That Need to Work Harder
Every square foot in a Dubai apartment costs money. That is not news to anyone who has rented a studio in Business Bay or bought a one-bedroom in Jumeirah Village Circle. What is surprising is how many people accept that their guest room sits empty 350 days a year, or that their home office doubles as a storage closet because there is nowhere else for the bed to go. A wallbed — Murphy bed, fold-down bed, whatever you want to call it — is the single most effective way to make a room do two jobs without feeling like a compromise either way.
At Carpenter Dubai, we build wallbeds properly. Not the flimsy metal frames with a plywood front that you see in cheap catalogues. Not the DIY kits that need two people to pull down and sound like a garage door every time they open. Real wallbeds — built into real cabinetry, with real mechanisms, using real timber, finished to match the room they live in. A wallbed we build should look like a wardrobe when it is up and sleep like a proper bed when it is down. Anything less is not worth having.
If you are considering a wallbed for your home, call us on 0581873002 or WhatsApp us. We will come to your space, measure properly, and tell you honestly whether a wallbed is the right solution or if there is a better way to use your space. We do not sell wallbeds to people who do not need them.
Why Most Wallbeds in Dubai Fail Within a Year
The mechanism starts groaning after a few months. You have seen it — the bed that needs two people to pull down, or worse, the one that slams down because the gas struts were never rated for the weight of a proper mattress. Cheap hardware imported from who-knows-where fails fast in Dubai's humidity and dust, and once the mechanism goes, the whole thing becomes a liability you are afraid to use.
It looks like an afterthought, not furniture. A wallbed should blend into your room. It should look like a cabinet, a bookshelf, a wardrobe — something intentional that belongs there. Too often what gets installed is a metal frame bolted to the wall with a plain front that screams "temporary solution." In a Dubai home where people take pride in their interiors, that is not good enough.
No one thought about the mattress. This is the part that gets ignored until it is too late. A wallbed needs a specific mattress depth and weight to function correctly. Too thick and the bed will not close properly. Too heavy and the mechanism strains and fails prematurely. Too light and the bed floats up on its own. We have fixed enough badly installed wallbeds to know that the mattress conversation needs to happen before anything is built, not after the client realises their existing mattress does not fit.
The installation was done by someone who does not understand walls. Dubai apartments have specific wall types — gypsum partition, blockwork, concrete, or a combination. Each needs a different fixing approach, different anchors, different load distribution. A wallbed falling off the wall is not a hypothetical risk. We have seen it happen because the installer treated every wall the same and hoped for the best.
What Makes Our Wallbeds Different
We do not sell wallbeds out of a catalogue. We build them for the specific wall they are going on, for the specific mattress you will use, and for the specific way you live in your space. That sounds like more work than buying a ready-made unit, and it is. But it is also the difference between furniture you are proud of and furniture you tolerate.
Our process starts with understanding what the room needs to do when the bed is up. Is it a home office? A yoga space? A children's play area? A living room that needs to feel like a living room and not a bedroom with the bed folded away? The cabinet design, the shelving configuration, the finish, the handle placement — everything follows from that conversation. A wallbed in a studio apartment in Downtown Dubai where the client works from home looks completely different from one in a Jumeirah villa guest room that needs to double as a study.
The hardware we use is rated for daily use, not occasional use. The timber is selected for Dubai's climate — we know what warps, what holds its shape, and what finishes will not peel within a summer. The installation is done by carpenters who understand load distribution and wall fixing, not handymen who happened to be available that day. And the mattress specification is part of the design, not an afterthought.
"We installed a wallbed in a studio in Dubai Marina where the client had been sleeping on a sofa bed for two years. Six months later, she told us the wallbed had changed how she felt about her apartment — she finally had a living room again. That is what a properly built wallbed does. It does not just save space. It gives you your room back."

Wallbed Configurations We Build in Dubai
Every wallbed we make is custom, but there are configurations that come up often enough to mention. Here is what we typically build for Dubai homes and offices.
Wallbed with Integrated Desk
This is the most popular request we get from people working from home. The bed folds up to reveal a full-sized desk that stays in place — no clearing your laptop every evening. We build the desk at the correct height for comfortable working, with cable management built in and enough depth for a proper monitor setup. When the bed comes down, the desk stays horizontal, so nothing gets disturbed. When the bed goes up, you have a professional workspace that does not look like a bedroom.
Wallbed with Side Storage and Shelving
For clients who need the wallbed to be the entire wall, not just a bed on a wall. We design floor-to-ceiling cabinetry on both sides of the bed with shelving, hanging space, and drawers. The bed itself is indistinguishable from the rest of the unit when closed. This works particularly well in master bedrooms where wardrobe space is limited, or in guest rooms where you want the space to feel like a proper study when the bed is not in use.
Horizontal Wallbeds for Low Ceilings
Not every Dubai apartment has the ceiling height for a vertical fold-down bed. In older buildings in Deira or Bur Dubai, or in converted spaces with dropped ceilings, we build horizontal wallbeds that fold out sideways. These need more wall width but less height, and they are often the only option that works in certain spaces. The mechanism is different, the framing is different, and the mattress requirements are different — which is why you want someone who has built them before.
Double and Queen-Size Wallbeds
Single wallbeds are straightforward. Double and queen-size wallbeds are where things get serious — the weight increases significantly, the mechanism needs to be rated accordingly, and the wall fixing becomes critical. We have installed queen-size wallbeds in villas across Arabian Ranches and Emirates Hills where the bed is used nightly, not just for occasional guests. That requires a different grade of hardware, a reinforced frame, and a different approach to installation.
Wallbeds with Sofas and Seating
For clients who want the wallbed area to function as a living room when the bed is up, we build units with integrated sofas or bench seating. The sofa stays in place when the bed comes down — the bed frame folds over the back of the sofa. This is a more complex build because the sofa height, depth, and back angle need to be precisely coordinated with the bed mechanism, but the result is a room that genuinely transforms from living space to bedroom without moving furniture.
Office and Commercial Wallbeds
We have built wallbeds for co-working spaces in Business Bay, for medical clinics that need overnight on-call rooms, and for corporate lounges where employees sometimes need to rest between shifts. Commercial wallbeds need to withstand heavier use and stricter safety requirements. The mechanism warranty, the fire rating of materials, and the installation certification all matter more in a commercial setting, and we handle all of it.
Wallbed Restoration and Mechanism Upgrade
If you already have a wallbed that is not working properly — stuck mechanism, damaged frame, doors that will not align — we can repair or rebuild it. Sometimes the existing cabinet is fine and only the mechanism needs replacing. Sometimes the whole internal frame needs to be rebuilt. We assess honestly and fix what actually needs fixing rather than selling you a replacement you do not need.

How We Build Your Wallbed — Step by Step
We do not believe in surprises when it comes to custom carpentry. Here is exactly what happens from the first call to the final installation.
Step 1 — On-Site Assessment. We visit your space, measure every dimension that matters, check the wall type, and discuss how you actually use the room. This takes about 30 to 45 minutes and costs nothing. We also bring sample materials and finish options so you can see and feel what you are choosing rather than guessing from a photo on a screen.
Step 2 — Design and Quote. Within 48 hours of the visit, we send you a detailed drawing showing exactly how the wallbed will look, along with an itemised quote. The quote breaks down materials, labour, hardware, and installation separately. If you want changes, we revise the design until it is right. There is no pressure to proceed and no charge for the design work.
Step 3 — Workshop Build. Once you approve the quote, we build the wallbed in our workshop. This typically takes 10 to 14 working days depending on complexity. Building in a workshop rather than on-site means better quality control, proper finishing conditions, and minimal disruption to your home. We send you photos of the build progress if you want them.
Step 4 — Installation. We install in a single day for most residential wallbeds. Our team brings everything needed, protects your floors and surrounding furniture, and cleans up thoroughly before leaving. We test the mechanism extensively, check every alignment, and make sure you know how to operate it safely before we go. We also leave you with the mattress specification sheet so you buy the right mattress.
Step 5 — Aftercare. We warranty our work and the hardware we use. If anything needs adjustment within the first year, we come back and sort it. Most of our wallbed clients never need us again after installation, but it matters that we are here if they do.
Wallbed Materials and Finishes
The materials we use depend on the design, the budget, and the room the wallbed is going into. Here is what we typically work with.
Carcase Construction. We use moisture-resistant MDF or plywood for the internal structure, depending on the load requirements and the client's preference. MDF gives a cleaner finish for painted surfaces. Plywood is stronger and better for heavily loaded mechanisms. We never use standard particle board — it does not hold screws properly and it swells if it gets damp.
External Finishes. Options include laminate in hundreds of colours and textures, wood veneer for a natural timber look, painted finishes in any colour you specify, or a combination. We match existing joinery where the wallbed needs to blend with wardrobes or kitchen cabinets already in the room.
Hardware. We use mechanisms rated for the specific bed size and weight, with gas struts or spring systems that are replaceable when they eventually wear out. The hinges, handles, and catches are all corrosion-resistant because Dubai's humidity will destroy cheap hardware within a year.
